Steampunk - Top Hats & Gears

The word Steampunk has been around since 1987; However, it wasn’t until I helped teach students at the Los Angeles Film School did I find out what it described. It is a speculative fiction in which steam is part of technological advancements, not electricity. It is a make-believe genre, combining Victorian lace and clothing with mechanical hardware. Goggles resting on the brim of Top Hats with feathers attached give more flare. As an artist, I enjoy the visual appeal of Steampunk. The combination of Mechanical pieces combined with delicate laces is the concept of opposites. The hard lines of machines to the soft lines of Victorian clothing. A nice contrast!
